Bread to the Widows
“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” Psalm 68:5
In the fall of 2023, a women’s team traveled through Bread to the Nations to the Dominican Republic to minister to and encourage widows. The team visited each widow in their home, heard their story and saw their living situation first hand. Each of their life stories are unique from each other. But one thing they all had in common is the lack of understanding and resources of how to care for their medical needs. For example, most of the women live with high blood pressure but do not have the means to cover the cost of their medications and/or lack understanding of how to best care for their medical needs.
Bread to the Widows was birthed as a way to care for the needs of five widows from the local church. Specifically, the Bread to the Widows initiative helps cover the cost of medications, some food staples and a home visit from the pastor and a medical professional each month to ensure their medical and physical needs are met.
