Clean Water Initiative
Bread to the Nations’ leaders researched options to bring clean water to our partnering church communities in Haiti. Through our research we concluded that bio-sand water filter systems are the best long term solution in Haiti. Clean Water for Haiti (CWH) is an organization that employs Haitians to build and install bio-sand filters in Haiti.
In May 2017, Steve and Tammy Hagstrom traveled to Haiti to meet with the directors of CWH, to see their facilities and to work out the details for a partnership. Since April 2018, with the help of Bread to the Nations’ promoters, CWH installed close to 400 filter systems in homes and one school spanning three church communities.
CWH does not believe in just giving the filters to families. They require that all families contribute $5 towards their filter system. This ensures a better chance that the family wants the filter, will take good care of it and use it.
This is an ongoing project. One filter system costs Bread to the Nations $100 plus labor costs of about $15 per filter. When you purchase a filter for a family, not only does that family benefit but also the surrounding neighbors and friends.
A total of $115 will give a family a clean water solution.
